Breaking in new shoes

New running shoes are always exciting and special! I always feel so much better when I get a new pair! Have you ever had to find a new running shoe that was a completely different style and brand? I used to use Mizuno Wave Engima but then they were discontinued by Mizuno. I was forced to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. If you know me you know I don’t like to deviate from my running routine 😅 so this was tough. Here is what I learned about breaking in new shoes so I can help you find the right shoe!👟

✨ You need to break in your feet to the new shoe; not your feet breaking into the shoe (YES! Read that again!) Your feet need time to get used to the new design and distribution of the cushion, etc. Easiest way to do this is to hold on to the old shoes and alternate the new shoe with the old one. Alternate between them for 4-6 weeks.

✨ Your first few runs in the new shoes should be 3-5 miles at an easy pace to give yourself time to understand how the shoes may be affecting your body.

✨ If you get your new shoes from a running store, consider doing the first few runs on a treadmill so you can return them if they aren’t right for you. (Most stores will not accept running shoes returns if they have been worn outside)

✨ Our bodies have an amazing way of adapting to change. But the take home message is give your body time and avoid sudden, big changes!

Be patient while you go through this process. If it doesn’t feel right when you first put it on, it probably isn’t the right shoe for you.

Has this ever happened?! How have you found new shoes?
